Description

Alecto and Amycus Carrow are a brother-and-sister pair of Death Eaters known for their cruelty and sadistic tendencies. Both served Voldemort during the Second Wizarding War and were installed at Hogwarts as professors during the 1997-1998 school year — Alecto teaching Muggle Studies (rebranded as anti-Muggle propaganda) and Amycus teaching Dark Arts (replacing Defense Against the Dark Arts). They enforced discipline through the Cruciatus Curse, which students were forced to practice on those who had earned detention.

History

The Carrows were among the Death Eaters present at the Astronomy Tower the night Albus Dumbledore was killed. When Voldemort seized control of Hogwarts, the Carrows were appointed to enforce his regime within the school. Their brutal methods drove many students into hiding or into the ranks of Dumbledore’s Army, which reformed as a resistance movement under Neville Longbottom.

On the night of the Battle of Hogwarts, Alecto summoned Voldemort after spotting Harry Potter in Ravenclaw Tower, but was stunned by Luna Lovegood. Amycus was subdued by Minerva McGonagall after he spat in her face. Both were bound and removed from the fighting before the battle began.

Current Status

Both Alecto and Amycus Carrow were sentenced to life imprisonment in Azkaban following the Battle of Hogwarts.
