Description

Callum Vane is a striking young man with sharp features, confident posture, and an athletic build that comes from years of Quidditch training. He carries himself with the easy assurance of someone who knows he’s skilled, never far from a smirk or cutting remark.

Personality

Callum is kind, effortlessly intelligent, and often the smartest person in the room—and he knows it. He’s a natural athlete with a sharp wit, constantly challenging professors with cutting observations and smug debates.

Background

Callum’s father was a beater at Hogwarts, and Callum wants to follow in his footsteps on the Quidditch pitch. He is related to Seylon Vane, the wizard that created Seylon’s Tower, and knows a bit about his ancestor’s history.

Story

Callum started as a rival to Caoimhe Keelan, Finlay Figgins, and Otto Noxley. Teamed with Declan MacMillan and Elias Flint for Wizzlethorpe’s Research Challenge, his group won first place and claimed the Dust of Disappearance—which the party promptly stole from him.

Otto drugged him with a Forgetfulness Potion and pickpocketed the dust while Callum demonstrated his leg workouts. When he later discovered the substitution with Puffing Pixie Powder, he confronted the party about where they’d gone. His suspicions only deepened.

One night, Otto caught Callum sneaking out. Following him led the party to Juniper’s Midnight Market, where they discovered Callum’s group was also plotting something involving Polyjuice Potion. When Primrose Calloway disappeared, Callum demanded to join their investigation.

He proved himself in Seylon’s Tower, impressed by the party’s navigation skills. Using his Polyjuice Potion, he helped them disguise themselves when cornered by professors. In the frozen north, Callum healed Finlay after a brutal Ice Widow attack and became an unexpected ally.

After Oleg Mirnov’s betrayal and the battle with a wight, Callum witnessed Katya’s death when a water elemental dragged her under. Escaping to the surface, the party was ambushed by Death Eaters. When they tortured Otto with the Cruciatus Curse, Callum broke first and begged them to give up the ring. After Aurors Tobias Crane and Rafael Santos rescued them, Callum cracked under questioning and revealed June’s Midnight Market, leading to its shutdown. Everyone at Hogwarts blamed him.

Over summer, Callum stayed at Otto’s estate where the party discovered that Seylon Vane—the wizard whose tower they’d been exploring—was his ancestor. When they returned to school, Professor Wizzlethorpe revealed he knew everything and asked them to continue exploring the Tower, explaining that only children could see it for what it truly was.
