Description
Remus John Lupin was a half-blood wizard, a werewolf, and one of the most capable Defense Against the Dark Arts professors Hogwarts ever had. A member of the original Order of the Phoenix and one of the four Marauders (alongside James Potter, Sirius Black, and Peter Pettigrew), Lupin spent much of his life struggling against the stigma of his lycanthropy. Despite this, he was widely regarded as kind, intelligent, and brave.
History
Lupin was bitten by the werewolf Fenrir Greyback as a child, an act of revenge against his father. Albus Dumbledore allowed him to attend Hogwarts, where the Whomping Willow and the Shrieking Shack were created to give him a safe place to transform. He became close friends with James Potter, Sirius Black, and Peter Pettigrew, who secretly became Animagi to keep him company during his transformations.
Lupin taught Defense Against the Dark Arts at Hogwarts during the 1993-1994 school year, mentoring Harry Potter and teaching him the Patronus Charm. He resigned after his lycanthropy was revealed.
During the Second Wizarding War, Lupin rejoined the Order of the Phoenix and married Nymphadora Tonks. Their son, Teddy Lupin, was born in April 1998. Remus was killed by Antonin Dolohov during the Battle of Hogwarts, just weeks after Teddy’s birth.
Current Status
Deceased. Killed at the Battle of Hogwarts on May 2, 1998. His son Teddy Lupin was raised by his grandmother Andromeda Tonks, with Harry Potter serving as godfather.
