Description
Lucius Malfoy is a wealthy pure-blood wizard and former Death Eater. Aristocratic, calculating, and politically connected, he wielded considerable influence at the Ministry of Magic for decades through a combination of wealth, intimidation, and strategic donations.
Background
The Malfoy family is one of the oldest and wealthiest pure-blood dynasties in wizarding Britain. Lucius’s grandfather, Abraxas Malfoy, was suspected of involvement in the death of Minister Nobby Leech, though nothing was ever proven. Lucius continued this tradition of operating in the shadows of power.
He is the father of Draco Malfoy and was married to Narcissa Black, sister of Bellatrix Lestrange.
History
Lucius served Voldemort during the First Wizarding War as one of his inner circle Death Eaters. After Voldemort’s first downfall in 1981, Lucius avoided imprisonment by claiming he had been acting under the Imperius Curse. He used his wealth and connections to re-establish himself as a respected figure in wizarding society.
Voldemort entrusted Lucius with his diary Horcrux, though Lucius was unaware of the object’s true nature. He slipped it to Ginny Weasley in 1992, inadvertently setting in motion the reopening of the Chamber of Secrets.
When Voldemort returned, Lucius resumed his role as a Death Eater. After the failed mission at the Department of Mysteries in 1996, he was imprisoned in Azkaban, falling into disgrace with Voldemort. The Malfoy family spent the remainder of the war in a diminished and desperate position, ultimately abandoning Voldemort during the Battle of Hogwarts to protect their son.
Post-War
Lucius’s abandonment of Voldemort during the battle kept him out of Azkaban. He cooperated with the Ministry of Magic, providing inside information that helped capture remaining Death Eaters. Despite this, his involvement with Voldemort cost the entire Malfoy family their prized reputation, which they had built up over many generations.
His son Draco eventually married Astoria Greengrass, a pure-blood witch whose views on blood purity were far more progressive. Lucius considered her a disappointing daughter-in-law, though he constantly nagged her and Draco for a grandson to continue the family name. He eventually got his wish with his grandson, Scorpius Malfoy.
