Description

A goblin of considerable ambition and financial acumen, Gringott is the founder of Gringotts Wizarding Bank, the first and most prominent banking institution in magical society. He established the bank in 1474, fundamentally changing how wizards and witches managed their wealth.

Background

Very little is known about Gringott’s formative years, including his age at the time he founded the bank. Like many goblins, the details of his personal history have been poorly preserved in wizard-centric historical records. What is clear is that he possessed the vision and skill to create an institution that would endure for centuries.

History

In 1474, Gringott established Gringotts Wizarding Bank, creating the first bank to serve the magical community. The bank, located deep beneath Diagon Alley in London, became the safest place in the wizarding world to store valuables — second only, as the saying goes, to Hogwarts itself.

Gringott’s legacy is such that he is featured on his own Chocolate Frog card, placing him in the company of figures such as Albus Dumbledore and Merlin. The bank that bears his name continues to operate under goblin management to this day, its vast underground vaults protected by enchantments, curses, and — in the deepest chambers — dragons.
