Description

Gringotts Wizarding Bank is the safest place for valuables in the wizarding world, located on the north side of Diagon Alley. The building towers above every other shop on the street, its brilliant white exterior unmistakable. Visitors pass through a set of bronze outer doors into a short passageway, then through silver inner doors bearing the following inscription:

Enter, stranger, but take heed of what awaits the sin of greed. For those who take but do not earn must pay most dearly in their turn. So if you seek beneath our floors a treasure that was never yours, thief, you have been warned, beware of finding more than treasure there.

The bank is run entirely by goblins and is one of the most frequented magical establishments in central London, accessible via Leaky Cauldron and Diagon Alley.

History

Gringotts was founded in 1474 by a goblin named Gringott. Under goblin stewardship, the bank developed an extensive system of underground vaults, protected by powerful enchantments, curses, and creatures. The goblins’ expertise in metalwork and their uncompromising attitude toward theft have made Gringotts synonymous with security in the wizarding world. Only a fool would attempt to rob it—and fewer still have lived to regret the attempt.
