Description

Blithe is in his late 40s, average height and build, with tidy brown hair and pale, slightly weathered skin from years of greenhouse work. His robes are clean but faded in earthy colors, and he speaks in a soft, calm voice with careful diction.

Personality

Blithe Thimblethorn is a mild, even-tempered professor known for his quiet kindness and professional demeanor who treats students with steady respect. Despite his bland exterior, those who pay attention notice he listens more than he speaks and has an almost instinctive understanding of magical flora behavior.

Background

Thimblethorn is a former Hufflepuff who worked with the Ministry’s Department of Magical Creatures on the classification and protection of semi-sentient plants before returning to teaching. He helped draft the controversial “Crying Root Directive” and is occasionally pulled into stranger school affairs, whether as a hostage or a figure seen in unexpected parts of the castle at night.

Story

Blithe’s first significant encounter with Caoimhe Keelan, Finlay Figgins, and Otto Noxley came during a field trip to the Forbidden Forest, where extremists took him hostage to threaten the students. Grimbella Thistlepin arrived in a storm of fire to rescue him, but Blithe was furious the students had disobeyed orders—deducting 50 points from Ravenclaw.

Later, his conversation in Herbology class earned the party 4 research points for their project on Talking Herbs. He grew suspicious of their absences and called them aside, but they convinced him with a story about getting lost in the Forbidden Forest after eating mysterious berries.

The party discovered Blithe maintains a bedroom in the Firefly Cellar beneath The Restricted Section, sleeping near Bixby Wizzlethorpe’s quarters. When Finlay accidentally woke him during a heist, the professor called out groggily—but Caoimhe’s perfect impression of Wizzlethorpe’s voice sent him back to sleep. Otto later petrified him with Petrificus Totalis when they were cornered, buying them time to escape. What exactly Blithe guards in the depths of the castle remains a mystery.
