Description
Pomona Sprout is the Herbology professor and Head of Hufflepuff House at Hogwarts. A warm, nurturing, and earthy witch, she is most often found in the school greenhouses with dirt under her fingernails and a cheerful smile on her face. Her deep knowledge of magical plants and her patient, encouraging teaching style have made her one of the most beloved professors at the school.
Background
As Head of Hufflepuff House, Sprout embodies the house’s values of hard work, loyalty, patience, and fair play. She has spent decades cultivating both magical plants and young minds at Hogwarts, treating each student with the same care she gives her most delicate Mandrakes. In the post-war years, she took on the additional role of mentoring Neville Longbottom, recognizing his extraordinary talent for Herbology and grooming him as her eventual successor. The two taught alongside each other for several years, with Sprout guiding Neville into the role of a confident and capable professor.
History
Sprout fought bravely in the Battle of Hogwarts, using her extensive knowledge of dangerous magical plants to defend the castle and its students. After the war, she continued teaching Herbology and leading Hufflepuff House, providing a steady and comforting presence during the rebuilding years.
By 2005, Sprout began transitioning into a semi-retired advisory role. She retains her position as Head of Hufflepuff House and oversees the greenhouses, but day-to-day teaching has been split between Neville Longbottom (who handles upper-year OWL and NEWT classes) and Blithe Thimblethorn (who was hired to teach the younger years). Sprout still appears in the greenhouses regularly, mentoring both professors and occasionally taking over a lesson when a particularly rare or dangerous specimen demands her expertise.
