Description

Firenze is a centaur and Divination co-professor at Hogwarts. Strikingly handsome with white-blond hair and startlingly blue eyes set against a palomino horse body, Firenze possesses the centaurs’ deep understanding of the stars and celestial movements. Unlike most of his kind, he holds a favorable view of humans and believes in cooperating with them — a conviction that once cost him dearly among his own people.

Background

Firenze was originally a member of the centaur herd that dwells in the Forbidden Forest on the grounds of Hogwarts. When Albus Dumbledore asked him to teach Divination at the school, Firenze agreed — a decision that led to his banishment from the herd, who considered serving humans to be a betrayal of centaur dignity. He taught Divination in a ground-floor classroom magically transformed to resemble a forest clearing, offering students a perspective on the subject rooted in astronomy and the observation of celestial patterns rather than crystal balls and tea leaves. He shares the Divination teaching duties with Professor Trelawney.

History

Firenze participated in the Battle of Hogwarts, fighting alongside the Hogwarts defenders against Voldemort and the Death Eaters. In the aftermath of the battle, his herd came to recognize that his willingness to work with humans was honorable rather than shameful, and they invited him to return. Firenze accepted, reconciling with his herd while continuing to teach Divination at Hogwarts. He now lives in the Forbidden Forest among his kin rather than in the castle, bridging the two worlds in a way no centaur has done before.
