Description

An elegant tiara of burnished silver, set with a single large sapphire and etched with the words “Wit beyond measure is man’s greatest treasure.” The diadem once belonged to Rowena Ravenclaw, one of The Hogwarts Founders, and was famed for enhancing the wisdom and intellect of its wearer. After being turned into a Horcrux, the diadem became tarnished and dark, radiating a palpable sense of malice.

History

The diadem was Rowena Ravenclaw’s most prized possession, and its enchantment — bestowing enhanced wisdom upon the wearer — made it one of the most celebrated magical artefacts of the medieval period. It was stolen by Rowena’s daughter, Helena Ravenclaw, who was jealous of her mother’s fame and wished to surpass her. Helena fled to a remote forest in Albania, and the diadem was lost for centuries. Rowena, heartbroken, never revealed the theft.

Tom Riddle, while still a student at Hogwarts, used his considerable cunning and charm to coerce the ghost of Helena Ravenclaw — known as the Grey Lady, the resident ghost of Ravenclaw House — into divulging the diadem’s hiding place. Riddle traveled to the Albanian forest, retrieved the diadem, and killed an Albanian peasant to create his third Horcrux in 1945.

Riddle then returned the diadem to Hogwarts, hiding it within the Room of Requirement — a place he believed only he had ever discovered. There it remained for decades, concealed among mountains of discarded objects and forgotten relics.

The diadem was eventually destroyed during the Battle of Hogwarts when Fiendfyre — a cursed fire of immense destructive power — was unleashed in the Room of Requirement.
