Description
A flowing, silvery cloak that shimmers like water woven into fabric. When draped over a person or object, it renders them completely and perfectly invisible. Unlike ordinary invisibility cloaks, which are woven from Demiguise hair and lose their effectiveness over time, this cloak’s magic never fades, never weakens, and cannot be penetrated by any known charm or spell. It is one of the three Deathly Hallows — the Cloak of true Invisibility.
History
According to the legend of the Three Brothers, Death wove the Invisibility Cloak from his own substance and gave it to Ignotus Peverell, the youngest and wisest of three brothers. While his elder siblings asked for a wand of supreme power and a stone to recall the dead, Ignotus asked only for something that would allow him to go forth without being followed by Death. Death reluctantly gave him the Cloak.
The Peverell brothers were born in the late 11th or early 12th century, though the true origins of the Hallows may predate the legend. Whether the brothers truly received gifts from Death or crafted the objects themselves through extraordinary magic remains a matter of scholarly debate.
Ignotus lived a long and full life, hidden beneath the Cloak when he chose to be. Only when he was old and weary did he remove the Cloak, pass it to his son, and greet Death as an old friend. The Cloak was passed down through the Peverell line for generations, eventually reaching the Potter family through marriage.
What distinguishes this Cloak from all others is its permanence. Ordinary invisibility cloaks — even the finest made from Demiguise hair — grow opaque with age, and their enchantments can be pierced by sufficiently powerful magic. The Hallow Cloak endures, unchanged and impenetrable, across centuries.
Within the symbol of the Deathly Hallows, the Invisibility Cloak is represented by the triangle.
